Batteries

Everyone was feeling low energy yesterday.  Three weekends of running around to Hilton Head and NJ caught up with us.  There was a lot of bonding with couches and TVs.

Palmer was in the basement making a mess and asked me to come down and put together his train track.  So, I ambled down and set up a layout with him that had two bridges and a big loop.  It took some fidgeting to make it fit in his table but when we were done he was happy.

He has one Thomas engine that is battery powered and it was dead so as he played with his regular trains I told him I'd go upstairs and replace the battery.  I brought it up with me and then promptly got distracted and ended up sitting in the office with Bob chit chatting.

About 10 minutes later Palmer somewhat stomping feet were heard in the kitchen.  He then appeared, hands on hips in the office doorway.  The second I saw him I realized my failure.  As he says "Ummm! Where is my battery?" I am saying "Oh!  I forgot your battery." And I'm out of the chair and we are both moving toward the kitchen where the batteries are kept.

When I take down the battery basket from the cabinet I say in a lighthearted way "I am sorry, Palmer.  I totally forgot.  Bad Mommy!"  He turns around and puts his hand gently on my hip and looks me right in the eye and softly says, "It's okay.
You're not bad.  You can do it.  I BELIEVE IN YOU."

Love that kid.
