Swing Batter!

Connor is having his best baseball season yet. He's hitting well. He's fielding well. He's showing a bit more focus. He's getting along with his coach (Bob). He still gets mighty frustrated, like he did today when he couldn't get his batting gloves on. And he still has a HORRIBLE time hanging around the dugout. But its a world of difference versus this time last year. I am so proud of him. And I'm so proud of Bob for being such a great Coach.

This is from Connor's back to school notebook "My First Week of Second Grade". It's on the page marked "My Family". Not terrifically nuanced, I'll grant you. But very terrifically sweet.

Shoot That Poison Arrow

We're home today. Palmer is just not himself. He hasn't pooped since Thursday (its Monday) and he got two vaccinations this morning. The first ones he got two months ago didn't upset him at all. But he's been very unhappy all day. If he's not eating or sleeping, he's crying or wimpering. Poor baby. On the developmental front, he's doing great. He weighs 16lbs, 10oz--at the 90th percentile. He's 26 inches long--at the 95th percentile. And his head is perfectly in the middle. No big melon. No pinhead. Just right. This is normally the time that they start talking about solid food. But the new guidance is that babies should be exclusively breast fed until 6 months. So, that's what we're doing for now. But the doctor said that if he starts acting interested in our food, we might want to go ahead. Like everything else with babies, the window for interest could close.

Blue Horns

Connor. September 12, 2003

Palmer. September 12, 2010

And what have we learned from this time machine?

1. It is unplanned and absolutely FREAKISH that it is the same date. I planned the outfit in the Exersaucer photo comparison, but was shocked to see the date on Connor's picture.

2. Palmer is bigger than Connor. Yes. You heard that right. In these photos, Connor is nearly a full month OLDER than Palmer, yet the hat barely fits Palmer and the outfit is snug from top to bottom. SHOCKING. Until now I'd been thinking he was smaller.

3. That is still the damned cutest outfit.

First of Second

Well, after a great summer at home with me and Palmer and a few fun weeks at TopKick, the day had to come. And it did. The first day of second grade. Connor's teacher is Mrs. Reed and she seems like she just might be perfect for him.

He seemed ready and like it was no big deal. I'm glad for him that he's got the kind of outlook that just rolls with it. Its a blessing that will serve him well all is life.

Of course, I had to dress my boys in somewhat matching outfits for their photo montage. Luckily, Connor rolled with that, too! Its gonna be a great year. I just know it.
